Step by step
How to use it
The same steps the Show me how button walks you through in the window, one at a time.
Pick something to eat
Tap Choose or Add on a dish. Choose opens a box first, so you can pick the size and toppings.
Pickup or delivery
Choose how the food gets to you. Delivery shows each zone with its fee and order minimum. On a phone, tap Your order to see it.
Watch the order add up
Items, tax and tip are added as you go. The last line shows what a delivery app would have kept.
Check out
Pick a time and a tip, then place the order. It is a demo card, so nothing is charged.
See what the kitchen gets
Once the order is placed, the customer receipt and the kitchen ticket appear side by side.
The real thing
What the real version does
The sample keeps the order on this page. The ordering system we built for a restaurant runs the same steps on its own menu, and adds the parts a kitchen needs.
Orders land on a kitchen tablet
A new order chimes on the kitchen screen until someone accepts it, then moves from new to in the kitchen to ready with one tap. No printer is needed.
The owner edits the menu
Dishes, photos, sizes and sold-out items change from the back office and show on the ordering page within seconds.
Prices are checked twice
The server prices every line again from the real menu at checkout, so a total changed in the browser is refused.
No commission per order
Orders come in on the restaurant’s own website, so there is no cut per order the way a delivery app takes one. Card processing fees still apply.
Questions
Common questions
Is this a real restaurant?
No. Demo Kitchen is a made-up pizzeria with made-up prices. Nothing you order is charged, sent or saved.
Can my restaurant take orders like this on its own website?
Yes. We set up ordering on your own site with your menu, hours and delivery area, so customers order from you directly. See online ordering for what is included.
Does the kitchen need a printer?
Not with the system we built. New orders show on a kitchen tablet with a chime. A ticket printer can be added if the kitchen prefers paper.
Under the hood
How it's built
For the technically curious. This is part of our online ordering work.
The sample is a React component with one reducer holding the cart, the pickup or delivery choice, the time and the tip. Every price is kept in whole cents, and New Jersey sales tax of 6.625% is rounded the way the state’s restaurant tax bulletin shows in its examples.
Sample hours and pickup times follow the restaurant’s clock in Eastern time, whatever time zone your phone is set to. The options dialog is a native browser dialog, so the keyboard and screen readers work the way they expect.
The real system runs on a database with access rules on every table, so customer records stay with the restaurant and can be exported to a spreadsheet at any time.
