Step by step

How to use it

The same steps the Show me how button walks you through in the window, one at a time.

  1. Pick who is clocking in

Tap a name. Everyone has their own color, so the right person is easy to spot on a shared tablet.

  2. Choose the job site

Hours are tagged with where they were worked, so each job gets the right labor hours.

  3. One big button at a time

Clock in, start a break, end it, clock out. Only the buttons that make sense right now are shown.

  4. Speed up time

Turn this on to watch a shift go by in seconds. Luis is close to 40 hours this week, so watch for the overtime flag.

  5. The timesheet fills itself in

Every punch lands here. Past 40 hours, overtime is flagged in coral. Download the week as a spreadsheet for payroll.

  6. See who is on the clock

The manager view shows who is working, who is on break and who has not come in yet.

The real thing

What the real version does

We have built time clocks into the office software of a home-exterior contractor and of a medical transport company.

  • Each worker uses their own phone

Workers clock in from their own phones, and a second clock-in is refused while a shift is still open.

  • Only at the job site

For the contractor, clocking in works only near the job site or the shop, which the phone’s GPS confirms. Clocking out works anywhere.

  • Managers see who is on

A live view shows who is working right now, and the transport company’s managers get a phone alert at every clock-in.

  • Timesheets ready for payroll

Hours per worker for any week, overtime after 40 hours, and a file the bookkeeper can open in a spreadsheet.

Questions

Common questions

Can workers clock in from their own phones?

Yes. The time clocks we build install on the home screen like an app, so there is nothing to download from an app store.

Is anything in the sample saved?

No. The crew and their hours are made up, and everything is forgotten when you leave the page.

Under the hood

How it's built

For the technically curious. This is part of our custom software work.

The sample runs on a reducer with a simulated clock, which is how Speed up time can play a shift in seconds. The timesheet math is a set of plain functions with their own tests: punches become worked and break minutes, and anything past 40 hours in the week counts as overtime.

In the real systems, every punch is stored in the company’s own time zone, so a shift never moves by an hour on a phone set to another zone, and the timesheet downloads as a CSV file for payroll.
