Alaeddin's Pizza

Alaeddin's Pizza is a family-run pizzeria on Getty Avenue in Clifton, a minute from the Paterson line. The whole menu is halal: the family says the kitchen, fryer and slicer handle only meat from halal-certified suppliers, instead of keeping halal options beside a regular line.

Pizza comes out of a brick oven, and the family says the dough cold-ferments for 18 to 24 hours before it is stretched. The menu also covers calzones and strombolis, baked ziti and parmigiana dinners, salads, wraps, and halal fried chicken and wings. Catering is a large part of the business, from trays for office lunches and graduations to the 28-inch party pizza, and the restaurant asks for a day's notice on orders of more than six trays.

The family says it opened in Paterson in 1998 as that city's first halal pizzeria before moving the oven to Clifton. Orders are available for pickup or for delivery by the restaurant's own drivers to Clifton, Paterson, Passaic, Nutley, Garfield, Wallington, Lyndhurst, Bloomfield and Belleville.
